In a previous post, we mentioned the “One to Watch” Award Nominations. TeXchange wants to recognize a local early-stage technology company that is destined for a great future. To be eligible, companies had to be headquartered in the DFW area, be a TeXchange member, and have 2011 revenues under  $2 million.

From crowdsourcing and popular vote, the top 12 semi-finalists have now been announced. Originally only 10 were going to be selected, but there was a 3-way tie, so they bumped it up to 12. The top 12 are:

These 12 must now submit additional information to verify eligibility. Five finalists will then be announced on May 10th with the ultimate winner being revealed at the Fast Tech Reveal on August 14th.

In its inaugural “One to Watch” awards, TeXchange will be recognizing a local early-stage technology company that is destined for a great future. But they need your help in determining which company deserves it the most. Via a bit of crowdsourcing and popular vote, the public can enter their nominations for up to 10 companies.

To be eligible, companies must be headquartered in the DFW area, be a TeXchange member, and have 2011 revenues under $2 million. The deadline to vote is this Sunday April 15th.

The top 10 companies will then be notified, and must submit further information to verify eligibility. From there, the five finalists will be announced on May 10th with the ultimate winner being revealed at the Fast Tech Reveal on August 14th.

Local technology entrepreneur organization TeXchange is hosting a Happy Hour at the Barley House near SMU this Thursday evening at 5:30. The event is open to all and is free for members. So come share a story or two with your brethren. Celebrate that you made it through the holidays in one piece.

TeXchange hosted a Member Showcase event on Wednesday evening at the University of Texas at Dallas. Over 25 companies and sponsors exhibited, demonstrating how local North Texas companies are filled with the entrepreneurial spirit.

Awards were given in three categories.

The Coolest Product award went to Vignature, which was co-founded by CEO Matt Spradley, CMO Kelly Spradley, and CTO Scott Roberts. Vignature allows for individuals and businesses to bypass expensive (and slow) paper processes, in favor of signing documents electronically. Individuals can sign and send documents within seconds from an iPhone4, iPad2, Android OS, or computer (with a webcam). Businesses can request signatures from a computer, and receive signed documents in electronic format by email. Central to all of the products is the utilization of camera functionality to create a verifiable signature containing an image of the signer.

The Best Exhibit award went to VentureDocs, which was founded by CEO Bo Sartain. VentureDocs sells customized legal documents over the web to investors (angel and institutional), entrepreneurs and their attorneys for the formation and financing of startup technology companies. VentureDocs is an open system and offers products for those ranging from brand new startup companies to those seeking Series A institutional venture capital financing.

The Smartest Marketing award went to Encryptics, which is led by CEO Dennis Cagan. Encryptics (R) is an early-stage company specializing in cutting-edge, patent pending, technology for controlled data/content distribution with access control at the level of the specific recipients.  Encryptics enables secure distribution of content between individuals, within an organization, and across organizational boundaries, while limiting further distribution, and retaining control of the actions of the recipients of the content.  Encryptics’ intellectual property and user-friendly multi-platform products provide the highest required level of encryption, and Encryptics’ CSM (Content Security Management) (TM) products include solutions for desktop, portability, email and SMS, on all popular desktop, portable and mobile platforms.  Core IP encompasses Trusted Peer-to-Peer (R) transmission, non-infrastructure-dependent architecture, triple level standards-based encryption, and CSM – a unique robust multi-layered access control invention/technology.

This coming Wednesday the Dallas chapter of TeXchange will be hosting both the CEO and CTO for an interview at their monthly event. ITKO exited for a whopping $330 million dollars back in June. It should be quite an interesting story!

A panel discussion on Incubators and Accelerators will be held on Wednesday 5:30pm at Maggiano’s in NorthPark Center.
