Startup Weekend Dallas is once again upon us.  This Thursday evening, serving as a pre-party, is Startup Poker. It will be hosted at Tech Wildcatters (the Tech Church) at 2700 Fairmount in Uptown Dallas. This Friday, the real event begins, at the same Tech Wildcatters (TW) venue…people with great ideas will pitch them to the crowd. The concepts are then crowd-sourced…the best ideas come to the top. Teams form around those ideas and work through the weekend to build a demo-able product. Judges will determine the winner on Sunday evening.

Prizes – Blake Burris at CoHabitat is offering 8 weeks of co-working space for the winner. Tiffany Sunday from Dillon 5 will give 2 hours of free marketing service to the runner-up.

Speakers – Chris Abrams, a veteran of Startup Weekend Dallas (SWD) and TW, will tell us about his adventures in startup land, and SWD and TW specifically. Tiffany Sunday from Dillon 5 will give us her insight about product development and gaining traction in the marketplace. Erick Flatt from Tunnel Vision, maker of the Sweat GUTR, will speak to the crowd about what it’s like running a small business.

SponsorsVela Keller, a law firm that serves both established businesses and well as start-ups, helps with entrepreneur advisement, document drafting, etc. Alcatel-Lucent, partnered with the AT&T Foundry Innovation Center in Plano, recently hosted a pitch day for university students, and is working on preparations for their next pitch day later this year. Key Ring App is an alumnus of the TW inaugural program from last year, and provides a way for you to manage your store loyalty cards on your mobile device. And last, but not least, we here at LaunchDFW are a supporting sponsor, helping with media efforts.

Special Guests – Tyler Koblasa comes out of Startup Weekend LA. He founded Ming.ly, an Outlook plugin that helps manage your contacts better than Outlook itself. Rahim Sonawalla from Twilio is also joining us. Twilio offers a web service API to help companies build their own voice and SMS apps. Tokbox, which specializes in making it easy to add video chat to your website, will also join us and support the local Dallas startup scene.
