Podcasts We’re Diggin’: A Little Life Advice from Tim Ferriss and Adam Robinson
Around Thanksgiving of this last year, Tribe of Mentors: Short Life Advice From the Best in the World hit the bookshelves with not only stellar reviews, but also the backing of an author and podcast personality many know and love – Timothy Ferriss. Well, good news – Tim has so generously adapted his new book into a podcast! For each episode of Tribe of Mentors Hosted by Tim Ferriss, Tim interviews an accredited source [or better stated, total boss] about a range of topics intended to give some quick insight into the “tools, habits, and lessons learned by world class performers in every field you can imagine”. Episodes run anywhere from 10-30 minutes and provide needed inspiration when you’re getting into a slump regarding just about anything in your life. Tribe of Mentors Hosted by Tim Ferriss debuted as a short-form podcast on November 20th and concluded its first season at 15 episodes right before Christmas. Time to play catch up!
Meet The Host
Some of you may already know Tim Ferriss since he has been cleverly dubbed the “Oprah of Audio” with his extremely popular podcast, The Tim Ferriss Show. Being compared to Oprah is enough for many of us to go “OK I have truly lived now”. But Tim is much more than the Oprah of Audio. He has authored four #1 New York Times bestsellers including The 4-Hour Workweek, The 4-Hour Body, The 4-Hour Chef, and Tools of Titans: The Tactics, Routines, and Habits of Billionaires, Icons, and World-Class Performers [and I’m sure his latest book Tribe of Mentors will be no different].
In addition, Tim is an early investor and advisor for over 50 companies including Uber and Facebook. If that weren’t enough, he is constantly invited to speak at some of the most prestigious organizations [I’m talking CIA, Google, Microsoft] and at events held by TED and SXSW [to name a few] where he has been on stage alongside the CEO of Amazon and Chairman of the Board of Google. The dude rocks at life and clearly has everyone’s hearts, minds, and attention. You can bet I’ll be buying his books and paying more attention to this guy…he is a game changer.
Featured Episode: Adam Robinson – The Power of the [Unconscious] Mind
Adam Robinson, who first appeared as a guest on The Tim Ferriss Show back in 2016, is known for co-founding The Princeton Review and developing a highly successful standardized test-taking strategy for the SAT – everyone’s favorite rite of passage into college. Fast forward to today, Adam is an independent global macro advisor “to the chief investment officers of a select group of the world’s most successful hedge funds and family offices”. Oh, and he’s also pen pals with Warren Buffet #casual.
In this episode of Tribe of Mentors, Tim asks Adam a series of fairly simple questions. But the responses are anything but simple. Adam outlines a few of his life mantras, explains why his best investment was learning to meditate, and provides advice to students about to graduate college. But I’ll tell you, the advice is relevant for everyone regardless of when you graduated college. It’s a wee bit distracting since Adam speaks as though he is reading from a script during his interview. Regardless, he looks at life in a very relatable way, in terms that anyone at any age can learn from.
Why You Should Listen
Take 5 minutes to do a little reading about Tim Ferriss and you’ll come to the same conclusion as I have. His podcasts as well as his bestsellers are revolutionary. Tim brings something truly valuable to the table – his ability to view the world in a unique and inspiring way. If you are at all interested in starting your own business, building a brand, or investing your time [and money] into anything meaningful, Tim is a fantastic resource – starting with his multiple podcasts.
The Tribe of Mentors series is perfect for those of us who don’t regularly have 2-4 hours to devote to a podcast [a normal runtime of The Tim Ferriss Show episodes] and perhaps need a jolt of inspiration on the way to our fifth meeting of the day. Hopefully Tim continues this series for another season, because while it is short, the content is concise and actionable. The episodes empower you with a few tactical ideas to improve your life, goals, and plans. Let’s be real, it’s hard to find answers to our “what do I do in this situation – type” questions. This podcast will satisfy your craving for answers and give you the tools to be successful.
