Dallas Community Gets in on the Vegan Fashion Industry

Inspirational speaker Nikki Duong Koenig was right at home on stage at Ignite DFW 4 when she spoke about vegan fashion. For those of you who don’t know what vegan means, it excludes all animal products and byproducts, in all aspects of life. The vegan lifestyle has been a growing trend since the 1980s.

“Vegan fashion is more hip than hippie,” and making vegan clothing eliminates the use of all animal products and byproducts, Koenig said. So why does this matter? According to Koenig, the global fashion is a $1.2 trillion industry that impacts people, the planet and animals. She pointed to the use of unfair labor practices and pollution, as well as the exploitation of animals.

Due to technology, animal-free materials are available by most retailers, and she pointed out three located in Dallas. Koenig asked everyone to Google vegan fashion to learn more.

Watch the video above and learn about the clothes you are wearing that come from animals and how they are made.
