OpenKey Unlocks a Major New Customer for its Mobile Access App

Local mobile access startup OpenKey has just landed another major customer in the shape of The Godfrey Hotel Boston, following the recent release of version 2.0 of its mobile app.

OpenKey is quite a rarity among Dallas startups in that it’s going all out to attack the hospitality industry with its mobile access solution. The company claims that its app is one of the standard bearers in the burgeoning universal mobile key scene, and given the progress it’s made since launching in January 2015, we’re inclined to believe them. For one thing, its technology is already being used at numerous hotels across the states, including one of our own, the Dallas Marriott Suites Market Center on the North Stemmons Freeway. The company has also scored some serious financial backing, being funded to the tune of $3 million in a June 2015 round led by the former founder of Frisco-based Koupon Media, TJ Person. In addition, OpenKey has secured funding from 12 of the world’s leading hotel and hospitality management companies.

OpenKey released version 2.0 of its app just last month, adding five new features to complement its basic functionality, unlocking hotel doors. The new features include Guest Profiles, which make it easier for guests to check-in to hotels; Call the Front Desk, which does exactly as it says; Estimated Time of Arrival, which also speeds up the check-in process by notifying hotel staff; ID Captures; and Arrival (Digital Access System), which allows hotel employees to manage the guest’s ETA.

The way the app itself works is simple – guests just download the app, check into the hotel, and then the hotel staff provides an access code for the room they’ve booked. And all guests have to do is approach the locked door and use the app to unlock it – far safer and more convenient than doing things the traditional way.

The company says the new app features have been extremely well received by guests and hotels alike, and today’s news that it’s signed up another major customer tells us it’s well on the way to becoming one of Dallas/Fort Worth’s latest success stories.
