Your iPhone: Offering an extraordinary travel experience

By Marlene Den Bleyker

The travel business is a $1.4 trillion industry, and according to Aassia Haq, founder of Guidrr, Inc., peer-to-peer influencers are the new gatekeepers of the industry.

While lost in Florence Italy, Haq called a friend who was a travel blogger in the area to get directions. Her friend also offered her an experience that she would not have otherwise known about by looking at a map or the Internet.

Haq decided to bottle the experience into a program for other travelers. She enlisted local influencers to create, share and discover on-demand experiences built by real people.

According to Haq, millennials use their cell phones approximately four times a minute when traveling. Guidrr is a free app available through Apple that allows users to find and purchase a destination experience.

Haq believes the transactional model offers an enormous revenue opportunity for content creators. Charging the user around $2.99 per experience, the breakdown of fee distribution is: 50 percent of the purchase price goes to the creator, Apple receives 30 percent and Guidrr receives the remaining 20 percent.

The company is looking at potential partnerships in the future and growing its user base.
