Unbranded: A holiday hub for local fashion startups

I don’t like shopping—rather, I don’t like the process or experience: the driving, the parking, the uninspired collections of clothes, the 19 year old salesgirl who reminds me of my ever-fading youth—it’s all quite unpleasant. In my dreams, stores only feature carefully-curated items, play music that makes you feel like you’re in a movie, and have an open bar.

Luckily, Unbranded, the retail pop-up brainchild of fashion entrepreneurs Matt Alexander (Founder and CEO, Need & Foremost) and Brian DeLuca (Founder and CEO, Foot Cardigan), delivers the kind of shopping experience even I can appreciate.

From beautiful, other-worldly, and downright clever selections from local shops like Sunshine Tienda, Of Mud & Coal, and Bullzerk, to the adult beverages, Unbranded is cool. The pop-up shop manages to highlight and promote local, hometown brands (including many that dedicate a portion of sales to worthy causes), without being heavy-handed. It doesn’t hit you over the head with “support local” or “gift with purpose.” And that’s part of Unbranded’s well-crafted genius.

Moreover, Unbranded has become a hub for local fashion and retail startups. And it’s not just Need, Foremost, or Foot Cardigan that are representing the emerging startup brands. Veux, a Tech Wildcatters company founded by Erin Ballard has a presence at Unbranded. Veux is an online retailer so having a presence in a brick and mortar building during the holidays is a great way to raise brand visibility for the startup—especially when that building is directly across the street from Neiman Marcus’ flagship store in Downtown Dallas.

Veux is joined by another accelerator graduate, The Citizenry, which boasts one of the most beautiful collections of hand-crafted home goods in the city. The Citizenry participated in the 2015 RevTech Accelerator program and has an outpost in the Knox-Henderson neighborhood of Dallas as well as a top-notch online store.

Unbranded is open from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. today and tomorrow, and from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Sunday. Remember when I mentioned the best shopping experiences have an open bar? Well, Unbranded is hosting a Happy Hour tomorrow (Saturday, November 28) at 4 p.m.

Happy Holidays.
