The 2015 Health Wildcatters (HW) session launched back in August and since then, the teams have been working hard to prepare for the final event, Pitch Day 2015. For those of you who are unfamiliar with HW, or the accelerator model, let me go give you the scoop. Health Wildcatters is leading healthcare accelerator in the southwest US. They open up their application process each spring and select the top 10-12 teams they feel are on to something big and will benefit from their network during their 12 week program. The 2015 teams came from a variety of backgrounds in healthcare, each one adding their own secret sauce to healthcare innovation. This year’s class is the most diverse yet with 5 ethnicities across founders, 20% immigrant founders, 50% female founders, and a mixture of solution types – 40% companies medical devices, 40% health IT, and 20% consumer healthcare.
During the 12 week program, the teams receive coaching and education from a 200+ network of mentors, investors, and sponsors. They also have access to opportunities that can be difficult for early stage startups. Some companies participated in a panel discussing trends at the IoT XChange conference, pitched at the ongoing Dallas events 1 Million Cups and Dallas New Tech, presented academic posters to the UT Southwestern clinical and research community, and participated in the UT System medical device expo at the FreshAIR conference.
Founders from various teams were quoted in Yahoo Health, featured in the Startup Dallas TV show and audio podcast, and were highlighted in Breakthroughs on KERA. The teams also received startup-specific advice from attorneys, a business presentation skills coach, insurance expert, and veteran entrepreneurs during their weekly Expert Breakfast sessions. By integrating into an environment that promotes and applauds growth, several teams will present major transformation during the program’s culmination event: Pitch Day 2015.
Pitch Day 2015 is the biggest event of the program. The 2015 class companies will each have an opportunity to take center stage and pitch their company to a room full of investors, venture capitalists, press, and community. Health Wildcatters has chosen to return to the historic Majestic Theater for Pitch Day 2015. Immediately following the event HW will be hosting an after party at their headquarters on the second floor of Alto 211 just down the street at 211 N. Ervay. There will be food, drinks, and games. Then 2015 teams will present demos and have the opportunity to network with the investors and attendees. You won’t want to miss the best part, so don’t forget to RSVP soon to get the best seat and the best price!
