21 May 1MC Weekly: Village and Gurrate
On Wednesday mornings from 9-10 AM, some of the most interesting business concepts in the Dallas area are presented to local professionals at the Dallas Entrepreneur Center. An extension of the Kauffman Foundation, 1 Million Cups is a weekly community event promoting entrepreneurship and community engagement nationally. Two new entrepreneurs present each week, and with ample opportunities for other business owners and possible customers to provide feedback, companies receive valuable insight into their business models. With a growing audience, dozens visit 1MC each week for the caffeine, treats, and networking opportunities.
Last week, Chris Winn presented his app, Village. Village is an online platform built for parents, poised to take on Wikipedia and general internet searches as a source for parenting advice. Parents can download this app and then post questions to the local community of other member parents. Individuals or families who may have the solutions to such questions can post their answers online. Users can then choose to endorse any answer, should they feel that it is beneficial. The next time you or a fellow parent have questions regarding your children’s health, keep Village in mind and on hand.
A key feature of Village is the availability of expert opinions and answers. Parents can rest assured that the information provided is safe, reliable, and ultimately helpful. With a growing community of parents, this solution grants not only peace of mind, but also community engagement in one fell swoop. Village encourages parents to skip the nonsense and vast amounts of time spent delving into Google search pages and sign up for their service. The time and heartache saved with using Village addresses a real pain point in worried parents’ minds. You can find them on Twitter or at their website.
Gurrate, a new ride sharing company aimed at business travelers, also presented their business this week. The service grants users access to local business class, large and small charter-style buses. One of the distinguishing features of their service allows users to not only avoid the pitfalls of Dallas traffic, but engage in a greener, more community-focused mode of transportation. To declare your interest and see if Gurrate covers your area, visit their website and request an invitation. You can also find them on Twitter.
Come out for the coffee and networking, and stay for Free Cowork Wednesday immediately following the 1 Million Cups presentations. As always, the organizers behind 1 Million Cups are enormously thankful to have Blue Star Payment Solutions as a local sponsor. Additionally, we would like to thank KurtOOO for their delicious breakfast snacks, and Urban Blend Coffee for their support and hefty supply of caffeine.
Check back here on Launch DFW next week for a recap of presentations from Skyrise, an application designed to drive community engagement in office complexes, and URcomped, a website that connects users to discounted casino getaways and travel.
