Kickstart Monday: iFind Could Give You Back 3 Years of Your Life

iFind, from WeTag Inc – a Plano-based startup, may just be the lost item dongle to end all lost item dongles.

I mean, it doesn’t have any any batteries, so how cool is that?!

First, you pair up an iFind tag w/ your iOS or Android device. Then, you attach the tag to any object you want to be able to find quickly should you misplace it. The system to uses bluetooth to track down items, once you’ve selected a tag to find. There is also an anti-theft mode, which will alert you if any of your items leave a 200ft radius from your phone.

Lost your phone? Don’t worry. You can shake a paired iFind tag and it will alert your phone to start vibrating/ringing!

Of course, this no battery stuff has some people raising their eyebrows. The company claims that their tag devices¬†“recycle electromagnetic energy and stores it in a unique power bank,” but don’t ever go into the technical details of how that actually works.

That skepticism, which has found it’s way onto the campaign’s updates/comments, hasn’t prevented iFind’s success so far. With over 3,000 backers already, the campaign blew through its $25k goal and is currently sitting at over $150,000 in contributions with 34 days to go.
