For one last time, Health 2.0 Dallas gathered at the Tech Church and brought just south of 100 people together to meet some up and coming startups in the DFW health arena.
As always, I got the party started about an hour or so of networking with a simple question: “Who really believes that healthcare is perfectly fine the way it is?”
Exactly. No one believes it.
According to the 2013 Halo Report, the average round size for a healthcare startup was up about $500k from 2012 – by far the largest jump of any of the other investment categories.
Chaos brings opportunity, and that’s exactly what we’re seeing right now in the healthcare space.
Before kicking things off, we had a big announcement from Kyle and Matt Taylor (the guys who organize the amazing Startup Weekend events here in Dallas and in Denton): For only the 4th time globally, Startup Weekend Health Edition is coming to Dallas!
Slated to take place August 8-10th, this promises to be an exciting and unique edition of Startup Weekend here in town with some new perspectives on solving some big issues in healthcare. For more info, head to http://dallashealth.startupweekend.org and follow them at @swdallash.
Kicking off the pitches was Sean Schantzen, the Co-Founder and COO from HealthFundr, a platform that allows healthcare startups to connect with interested investors.
Next we heard from Ravi Kalidindi, the Founder and CEO of Simple Interact, a company working to help doctors’ offices better manage their patient check in and feedback processes.
Closing things up was Chaps Tucker, the Co-Founder of HireDallasNurses.com, a company who helps pair nurses in the job hunt with the right provider and give them some killer training and education along the way.
My compliments to each of these fellas as they gave their 5 minute pitches and addressed questions from the audience. We’re really excited to see you guys change our industry for the better!
Finally, Dr. Hubert Zajicek, the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Health Wildcatters announced the upcoming application deadlines for the 2014 class: the early deadline is set for May 15th and the final deadline is June 15th.
