Secret Happy Hour Wants to Bring You Great Bar Deals

Secret Happy Hour just launched in the App Store and is set to bring you the best deals from restaurants and bars near you.

While there is certainly no shortage of location-based apps that bring you deals, you would be mistaken to think that SHH is just “another of the bunch.”

First, the app focuses exclusively on LOCAL restaurants and bars. That’s right, you won’t find any big chains inside of Secret Happy Hour. Given the blight of big restaurant chains in the metroplex it’s no wonder the pendulum has started to swing back the other way, especially as many Dallas neighborhoods are being reborn.

Also, SHH founder Taylor Pierce says the application has integrated support for Apple’s iBeacon, described by Apple as “low-powered, low-cost transmitters that can notify nearby iOS 7 devices of their presence.” This means that when an iOS7 user is walking by a restaurant on the SHH platform, the user could be immediately notified of a deal.

In addition, restaurants and bars will have complete control over the types of deals they offer through the application, managed through a web-based portal. Business can currently get on the SHH platform for free by visiting the business registration page on their website.

I caught up with Taylor to discuss SHH in a bit more detail:

What’s your personal background?

I’ve been developing apps for the last 5 years. Started two companies while In college. My apps have been downloaded over 2,000,000 times. I have also written a best selling book Appreneur.

Why did you build Secret Happy Hour?

We found a big niche that was missing for both businesses and customers. Customers eat at the same old places day after day. SHH aims to help them discover new local places by allowing the restaurants to offer them exclusive specials.

How is it different from other deal apps?

Everything we do is locationally based and the specials are completely in control of the businesses so you always get something new. Our biggest features is iBeacon integration… imagine walking by a bar or restaurant and getting a deal for the place you’re standing by. Aside from that I think we’re the first company that allows bars and restaurants the full capacity to advertise the way they want.

How is the company funded?

Privately funded by the SHH team and one small investor. We are actively seeking investment to move to the next level.

What are the short/long term goals?

Short term goal is to simply bring customers and restaurants together. Long term is to change the way businesses advertise.

The application is available for download now on iOS with Android coming very soon.
