Dallas-Based One-for-One Business Strives to ‘Be Pawsitive’

Inspired by Start Something That Matters, local entrepreneur Travis Watson, sets out to make a difference for dogs in need.

Since the explosive growth of the Toms campaign, the ‘buy one, give one’ market has latched onto several retail industries over the last few years. Be Pawsitive, launched June 1, is the very first of its kind, providing dog treats to animal shelters for every purchase.

The treats are all organic and gluten free. With wholesome ingredients, there are currently eight different flavors lined up for the year, which are baked in small batches for quality control. They are available through bepawsitive.com, where members can sign up for a subscription that will provide them a box of 55 biscuits in a new flavor every month. Simultaneously, a box will also be sent to a participating shelter.

Watson’s idea came from a personal experience adopting Lola, currently dubbed the “Chief Treat Officer,” and his first visit to a shelter. Upon finding that 3 million dogs will enter a shelter every year, Watson decided it was time to act.

“You can just tell they are in need and I wanted to do something to give back,” said Watson. “The one for one model just made sense.”

Hence, Be Pawsitive was born. Providing one box of treats for every box purchased, they were intended for obedience training to prepare the pups for adoption and also as a means to get adopters acquainted with their potential pets.
