The coasts are by no means the only places where innovation is thriving. According to a report commissioned by the Angel Resource Institute, Silicon Valley Bank and CB Insights, 5.7 percent of the country’s angel investment deals are done in the Great Plains, and 13.6 percent in the Southwest. Both are the only regions to witness a rise in their share of investment from the first half of 2011 to the first half of 2012. We know that investment figures only tell part of the story, and clearly there is something amazing happening there.  At turnstone, we felt it was time to get a closer look at the companies driving this innovation.

In the spirit of celebrating startups and entrepreneurship in the heartland of America, we’re packing up and hitting the road to help 5 great businesses in 5 great cities get a $20,000 makeover. Our ten day, nine state road trip will kick off from our headquarters in Grand Rapids, MI, and end at the largest gathering of startups in Austin, TX. Along the way turnstone will stop in cities where there is no shortage of great ideas – Chicago, Des Moines, Omaha, Kansas City and Dallas – and help one winner in each market create a workspace that truly represents their culture.

Interested?  Submit your entry at and tell us how a space makeover can amplify your culture and help you take your venture to the next level. Hurry, as the contest will end on February, 10th, 2013.

Our turnstone bus will be somewhere in the Dallas/Fort Worth area on March 4th. Will we show up in front of your office?  Hope to see you soon!

Here at turnstone we’re very excited about the contest and our trip to Dallas/Ft. Worth in early March!  We’re also very interested in getting to know the area startup community, and look forward to sorting through what I’m sure will be some great stories about how you’re each building culture.  Good luck to everyone who chooses to enter!
