Koupon Media Raises $2 Million

via press release:

DALLAS, TX — (Marketwire) — 11/09/11 — Koupon Media, the creator of a new and innovative platform for delivering digital coupons to consumers via mobile devices, today announced that it has raised $2 million in Series A funding, led by DFJ Mercury, with participation from the Matthew Pritzker Company. The new round of venture financing will be used to further develop its technology and bring it to market for use with retailers, consumer product brands and marketing agencies.

Mobile coupon usage is expected to reach 300 million users and generate $6.5 billion in sales by 2014, according to the Promotional Marketing Association.

Koupon Media is well-positioned to capitalize on this growth having recently completed a proof-of-concept demonstration of its technology for a major global beverage company with impressive results. Koupon Media’s uniqueness in the mobile couponing space is its ability to deliver single-use consumer product coupons at retail. These single-use coupons eliminate fraud from the fulfillment process, and are delivered via QR code, bar code, text message, email, or social-media websites. Koupon Media’s fulfillment platform has been integrated with a variety of retailer point-of-sale (POS) systems, providing brands both enhanced product control and detailed analytics to better determine consumer buying behavior.

“Koupon’s business model truly stands out against the onslaught of coupon startups in the market,” said Blair Garrou, Managing Director of DFJ Mercury. “We like their brand-focused approach and the team’s background in mobile content and advertising.”

“Mobile marketing and couponing is clearly a growing market with numerous opportunities to introduce innovative technologies that enhance and improve the customer experience,” said Matthew Pritzker. “We look forward to working with an experienced management team, bringing our operational experience and network of relationships to help Koupon grow and succeed.”
